Overview: Singapore   [show/hide]

The island city-state’s small land area has not discouraged people from flocking it. In fact, Singapore (SG) has gained popularity amongst travellers and businessmen.

Singapore is an eye candy for top investors and companies. In fact, it is a world city and plays a key role in international finance and trade. The Lion City has one of the busiest ports in the world. It is also one of the Four Asian Tigers and is home to top multinational companies. The stable economy and continued thirst for industrialization has drawn entrepreneurs from all over the world to Singapore.

Travellers are also drawn to the theme parks, shopping centres and other wonderful places in the Lion City. The latest addition to its attractions are the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, the world’s most expensive hotel with an infinity pool on the 55th floor, and Universal Studios Singapore, only the fourth Universal Studio to open in the world. The theme park is on Sentosa Island, famous for resort hotels and the Underwater World - presents a majestic view of the sea kingdom with over 250 species of sea creatures. The Singapore Flyer, the world’s largest observation wheel, is a must try for adventure seekers. Meanwhile, Clarke Quay is the centre of Singapore night life.

Aside from Merlion, SG’s famous landmark, it is also known for its grand shopping centres from Orchard Road’s Paragon and ION to the Central Business Districts Raffles Arcade and Marina Bay Sands Shoppes. Orchard Road is the hub shopping malls housing designer brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermes, etc. For bargain shopping, shopaholics head to the Bugis Street Night Bazaars, Chinatown, Mustafa Centre, etc.

Visitors coming in by plane enter the Lion City via Changi International Airport, one of the best international airports in the world. Singapore is also accessible via train from Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. There are also buses going to SG from other Malaysian places like Johor Bahru and Melaka. Cabs may also be rented but it can be costly.

With hundreds of thousands visiting the country, SG also offers tourists a wide-range of accommodations from budget-friendly to luxurious hotels with modern to colonially-inspired architecture like the Raffles Hotel.

For a country whose leaders once thought labor force is its only resources, Singapore has gone a long way. The Lion City is just oozing with attractions and fun things to do. Yet, what truly tops Singapore’s accomplishments is the fact that the government is as fierce as a lion in keeping the country clean and pollution-free. Singapore should be applauded for showing the rest of the world that industrialization and preservation of Mother Nature could go together. Picture-perfect: Singapore is a pollution-free highly industrialised country.
